Trades SEO
SEO for Tradesmen Who Want More Than Directory Leads
Our SEO for tradesmen is for sole traders, handymen and firms offering several trades. Directories and quote sites take the top places for "find a tradesman", so our local SEO for trades aims at the jobs and towns you cover, across Google Search, its map results and AI assistants. A senior specialist handles every task.
Some of the brands we have worked with
Who this is for
Trade businesses we work with
Digital marketing for tradesmen should follow how your own customers search.
Sole traders and handymen
Ahrefs puts 83% of "handyman near me" searches on phones, and a question Google lists for it asks which handyman service is most requested. Name each small job you take on, on pages that load fast on a phone.
Firms offering several trades
One services page listing every trade matches no single job well. Kitchen fitting, general building work and repairs each need setting out separately on your website, with your Google Business Profile categories matched to the trades you offer.
Tradespeople on lead platforms
Tradespeople search how MyBuilder, MyJobQuote and Checkatrade work for them, and in Ahrefs' September check those three sat second to fourth for "find a tradesman". A listing can run alongside SEO; enquiries from your own site reach you directly.
Firms quoting for larger jobs
A kitchen fit or a building job is a bigger decision than a repair, and homeowners want reassurance before booking. Project write-ups with photos, and pages answering what they ask before committing, are made for that stage.
What we do
Who ranks when customers search for a tradesman
By Ahrefs' UK estimates for September 2026, "find a tradesman" draws about 1,500 searches a month, "tradesmen near me" about 350 and "local tradesmen" about 300, with difficulty scores of 82, 78 and 83. In Ahrefs' September checks of "find a tradesman" and "local tradesmen", TrustATrader, MyBuilder and MyJobQuote took the top three places on both, and no trade firm's own website reached either top ten. The handyman results look different: "handyman near me" draws about 11,000 searches at a difficulty of 33, and two local handyman firms' own websites, both scored 0 for Domain Rating by Ahrefs, made its top ten alongside MyBuilder, Checkatrade, TaskRabbit and Bark.
What our SEO services for tradesmen cover
Job pages grouped by trade
Every trade you cover gets a set of pages, one per job, from kitchen fitting to garden walls and repairs, plus town pages only for places you really work, linked to build authority together.
One profile covering every trade
Your profile's categories are set to match the trades you offer, backed by photos of finished work in each. Through our Local SEO service we add regular posts and match service areas and hours to your real work, with Apple Maps kept in step.
Reviews that name the job
A request after each job asking the customer to name the work, from a kitchen fit to a small repair, and your answer posted under each review. Reviews help rankings and reassure homeowners before they book.
Built for phone searchers
Ahrefs puts the phone share of the local trade searches we researched at 62% to 83%, so Technical SEO tackles mobile usability, speed and Core Web Vitals before broken links, orphan pages, thin content and schema.
One description across every listing
ChatGPT and Gemini lean towards a business described one way everywhere, so your site, profile and any Checkatrade, TrustATrader or MyBuilder listing should agree on name, trades and area. Generative Engine Optimisation handles that; Reddit GEO builds mentions in relevant communities.
Single trades have their own pages, such as SEO for Plumbers and SEO for Electricians, as do building firms (SEO for Construction) and installers (SEO for Home Improvement Service Businesses).
Working alongside the directories
In home improvement, a specialist area for us, many top results belong to Checkatrade, MoneySuperMarket and national comparison sites, so we plan around the directories rather than against them. A listing can keep bringing work while your own pages and profile build up, with the aim of leaning less on paid leads over time. Our founder, Myles, knows paid leads from the buyer's side: he spent fourteen years buying them in heating and home energy before starting Essheo.

Frequently Asked Questions
It is, and AI search strengthens the case. An AI Overview opens Google's "handyman near me" results, and people ask ChatGPT and Gemini which local trades to use. Both rely on SEO groundwork: a complete profile, fresh reviews, consistent listings and clear answers.
Target the jobs. Homeowners wanting a repair, a garden wall or a new kitchen usually search for that job with "near me" or a town. Give each job you want a page and reviews mentioning it, and list its trade on your profile.
Perhaps your site aims at the wrong searches. Ahrefs' September checks of "find a tradesman" and "local tradesmen" found only directories, quote sites, advice pages and Facebook groups in both top tens. Pages for each trade and job suit how homeowners search.
The basics, yes. Between jobs, keep your profile categories matched to your trades, add job photos and reply to reviews. Keeping kitchen, building and repair pages linked, fast and error-free takes more skill; you decide whether we run that or share it.
It can be, when it brings enquiries you would otherwise buy from lead sites. Technical and page fixes usually show movement inside four to eight weeks; contested trades and towns move over six to twelve months. Rankings are Google's decision, so we never promise one.
It varies, so we publish no figure. A handyman in one town needs a different amount of work from a multi-trade firm covering a county. A look at your site and rivals comes first, and you see the proposed work before committing.
