Accounting SEO
SEO for Accountants Winning Self-Assessment, Payroll and Bookkeeping Clients
When someone needs a tax return filed, payroll run or their books kept, they search for it, often with a town or "near me" attached. Local SEO for accountants and bookkeepers works on where your practice appears for those searches on Google, Maps and ChatGPT. Your account is worked by a senior specialist, not handed down to a junior.

Who this is for
Accountancy firms we work with
Sole practitioners and small practices
"Chartered accountants near me" (about 1,500 a month) shows a map pack, but "tax accountant near me" (about 1,100) does not (Ahrefs UK data, September 2026). A small practice needs its profile and an ordinary page that ranks.
Bookkeeping practices
In Ahrefs UK data for September 2026, "bookkeeping services" (about 3,300 a month) and "bookkeeper near me" (about 600) both show a map pack. A bookkeeping practice needs a strong profile and a page for each town it covers.
Firms with a specialism
Some clients look for a particular kind of accountant: "small business accountant" and "how to find a good property accountant" are both real UK searches. Give the clients you serve best a page of their own.
Firms with several offices
When one office handles tax returns and another bookkeeping, each gets its own Google Business Profile and a page led by that work. Matching details everywhere help assistants pair the right office with the right service.
What we do
What accountancy clients type into Google
Accountancy searches happen mostly at a desk. We measured sixteen client searches, from "accountants near me" at about 6,500 a month to "self assessment tax return accountant" at about 500, and Ahrefs UK data for September 2026 shows that none is made mainly on a phone. "Accountant near me", "accountants near me" and "bookkeeping services" each bring up a map pack, and on the first two, paid adverts sit at both the top and the bottom of the page. Searches for a self-assessment accountant or for payroll services show a Google AI Overview instead, which draws on pages that answer the question directly.
What our SEO services for accountants cover
Profiles built for accountancy searches
Our Local SEO work sets up each office's Google Business Profile for the map pack on "accountant near me" searches, with accurate categories, the areas you really serve, your hours, team photos and a steady run of posts.
Service pages clients search for
Self-assessment, payroll, bookkeeping and annual accounts each get their own page. Town pages follow where you genuinely take on clients, so tax returns in one town can sit beside bookkeeping in the next.
Guides signed by your accountants
Google's People Also Ask box for "accountants near me" includes "Should I use an accountant for a tax return?" We interview your accountants, cite sources, and publish each guide under the name and credentials of the one who checked it.
Reviews a new client can weigh
Someone about to hand over their books or their tax return wants reassurance from clients who already rely on you. We set up a routine for gathering genuine reviews and help you reply professionally to every one.
Service definitions AI can match
Through our Generative Engine Optimisation work, your services, towns and client types read the same on your site, profile and directory listings, so a model asked about tax returns in your town can match you.
Who holds the "accountants near me" results
In Ahrefs' UK check of "accountants near me" on 23 September 2026, three local firms filled the map pack. Beneath it, directories took three organic places (Unbiased, Bark and Yell) and an accounting software company's accountant finder a fourth. The rest went to accountancy firms: two with pages written for that phrase, one with a page for its city, and a Scottish practice's homepage. Ahrefs ran the check from one location in Scotland, so the names will differ in your town; still, a firm's own pages ranked beside the directories. Once a client arrives, specifics reassure them where "trusted local experts" lines cannot: a page setting out what your annual accounts service includes, a guide signed by one of your accountants, recent reviews.

Frequently Asked Questions
It is the work of making your practice the one clients find when they search Google, Maps or ChatGPT for an accountant. It works by matching your pages and profile to the exact service and town clients type, judged on new client enquiries, not rankings alone.
By being found when someone searches for the work they need. "Accountant near me" shows a map pack built from Google Business Profiles; self-assessment and payroll searches show an AI Overview quoting pages that answer directly. A practice needs a place in both.
By choosing the work you want more of and making it easy to find. You can start in-house: keep your profile's categories and hours accurate, ask recent clients for reviews and give that service a proper page. We can do the rest, or work alongside you.
Not on its own. AI tools help with research and speed up our own checks. Judging which faults cost your practice new client enquiries, and what to fix first, still takes an experienced SEO.
There is no price list. A sole practitioner wanting self-assessment clients in one town is a different job from a multi-office firm competing on payroll and bookkeeping. We study your site and nearby rival practices before you agree to anything.
Through search, paid and organic. "Accountant near me" carries adverts above and below its map pack, but paid leads and adverts dry up the day you stop paying. Organic visibility keeps bringing enquiries as it grows, so you rely less on buying each new client.
