SEO Migration Agency

SEO Migration Agency for Moving Your Rankings to the New Site

We are an SEO migration agency for businesses changing platform, domain, design or URL structure, planning the search side so the rankings and links your site has earned can carry across. Senior SEOs join before the build, map every old URL to a new one and watch the site for eight weeks after launch.

Who this is for

When to bring in migration help

  • Redesign approved, no SEO brief

The designs are signed off and the build is about to start, yet nobody has asked which pages earn your search traffic. That is the point to bring SEO in, before templates and URLs are built.

  • Leaving a legacy CMS

A move to WordPress, Shopify or a headless build puts URLs, titles and templates up for change together. Each platform has its own SEO pitfalls, and the redirect plan is written for the one you are moving to.

  • A new or merged domain

You are changing domain, folding several sites into one or bringing an acquired site under your name. Every URL moves at once, and links built on the old address need a mapped route across.

  • Traffic fell after launch

The new site is live and rankings or enquiries have dropped. We trace the cause, often a redirect gap, an indexing fault or changed content, and set out a recovery plan rather than wait it out.

What we do

  • Why rankings slip when a site moves

Most of what an SEO migration agency does comes down to one fact: your rankings, and the links other sites have given you, are attached to your current URLs. A 301 redirect from each old URL to its nearest equivalent lets link equity and rankings carry across.

When a move goes wrong, the cause is nearly always a missing or broken redirect, content lost between templates, or a technical fault on the new build. The right process can prevent all three, mostly before launch, and post-launch monitoring catches any that still appear.

What our SEO migration work includes

Every website migration SEO project we take on has five parts.

  1. Benchmark before anything changes

A full crawl of the current site plus an audit of its rankings, backlinks and indexed pages, so we know which URLs carry value and what the new site must match.

  2. A URL-by-URL redirect map

Every old URL, merged and retired pages included, matched to its nearest equivalent with a 301. AI helps audit long URL lists and flag potential redirect problems; an experienced SEO checks the map before it goes live.

  3. Content and metadata carried across

Titles, meta descriptions, headings, body copy and structured data moved accurately into the new templates, with nothing dropped or duplicated.

  4. Staging tests

Crawlability, indexation, speed, structured data and the redirects themselves tested on staging while fixes are cheap, with failures sent to your developers as tickets.

  5. Launch day and eight weeks after

A launch-day checklist as the site goes live, then rankings, indexing and server responses watched closely, with gaps fixed as they appear.

  • Measuring the move against its benchmark

We measure the new site against the pre-launch benchmark: rankings, organic traffic and indexed pages, plus leads and revenue where you track them. Checks start on launch day and continue through the monitoring period, and you are told of any page that slips, with its cause and fix, confirmed in Search Console once live. If we then run your SEO, reporting becomes monthly, with commentary.

  • Migrations from our published work

At Value Doors, a messy URL structure meant the migration began with a large 301 redirect mapping exercise and new URLs throughout. Myles, our founder, expected a dip while Google settled after the move; the drop was very small, and rankings recovered within three months.

UK Composite Doors ran on WordPress and WooCommerce, which we set up, for four years before we moved it to Shopify, and it now ranks higher than ever. Migrations run as a project within our Technical SEO work, part of SEO Services. For a store on Shopify, Shopify SEO covers collection and product page structure and app-related technical fixes.

How it works

How a site migration runs, from first brief to handover

  • Step 1 of 4: Start before the build

While designs are still in progress, we scope the work with your web team and benchmark the old site, then send you a shortlist of the pages whose rankings and links matter most.

  • Step 2 of 4: You approve the plan

Over the next few weeks you receive the redirect map and a content and metadata checklist to approve. Once a senior SEO has checked the map, both go to your developers as tickets.

  • Step 3 of 4: The pre-launch review

When the build reaches staging, we test it against the benchmark. You get a pre-launch review listing what passed and what your developers must still fix before the site goes live.

  • Step 4 of 4: Go live, then hand over

On launch day we work through the checklist with your developers as the site goes live. When monitoring ends, you receive a before-and-after comparison with the benchmark, showing what changed and why.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Ours covers the search side of changing a site's platform, domain, design or URL structure: benchmark, redirect map, content transfer, staging tests and monitoring. We work alongside your developer or web team, can implement directly on WordPress, Shopify, WooCommerce and headless builds, or can recommend a developer.

It can, even when the domain stays the same. Our technical audits often find structured data that vanished in a redesign without anyone noticing. Comparing the staging build with the old site shows what a new design has lost while it can still be put back.

Treat it as a full migration. Benchmark the old domain's rankings, backlinks and indexed pages, 301 redirect every URL to its equivalent on the new domain, test those redirects on staging, then watch rankings and indexing closely after the switch.

It depends on the size and complexity of the site. Most need a few weeks of mapping and staging tests before launch, then eight weeks of monitoring after it. A large site takes longer, since every old URL still needs a mapped destination.

Nobody can promise that, because nobody controls Google. After Eco Happy moved onto ecohappy.co.uk, we invested heavily in SEO as its main growth channel, and at Value Doors, PR and links came in once rankings had recovered. Reports against the benchmark show what the move changed and what came after.

An SEO migration agency, brought in before the build starts, because adding SEO after launch costs more and recovers less. Ask which migrations they have run and who will handle yours; each person we put on a migration has 8+ years' experience. Be wary of promises of zero ranking loss.
